1. Highlights from the past

  • In June 2013 IEEE Microwave Theory and Technique Society recognized Lithuania Section Joint MTT/ED/AP Chapter as 2012 Outstanding Chapter.
  • IEEE Lithuania Section as technical co-sponsor of the 31st NORCHIP Conference, held in Vilnius, Lithuania.
  • IEEE Lithuania Section co-organizer and co-sponsor of the 1st Joint Lithuanian-Latvian workshop “Advances in Information, Electronic and Electrical Engineering”, AIEEE’13, held in Riga, Latvia.
  • IEEE Lithuania Section as co-organizer and co-sponsor of the 14th Joint Lithuanian-Belarus workshop “Microwave and optoelectronic devices and systems”, MODS’13, held in Vilnius, Lithuania.
  • IEEE Lithuania Section as organizer of guest lecture given by Prof. Carl James Debono.
  • IEEE Lithuania Section Joint MTT/ED/AP and E Chapters as organizers of the 2nd workshop “Time Domain Measurements Equipment and Techniques” held with industry representatives and MSc degree students in Vilnius, Lithuania.
  • IEEE Lithuania Section GOLD Affinity Group as organizer of seminars with hands-on experience for children “Android Gadget Development”.
  • Organization and celebration of IEEE Day in Lithuania.
  • Support and participation of IEEEXtreme 7.0 24-Hour Programming Competition.

2. Future activities

  • Section as technical co-sponsor of the 17th Conference for Lithuania Junior Researchers “Science for Future. Electronics and Electrical Engineering”, to be held in Vilnius, Lithuania.
  • Section as co-organizer, co-sponsor of Joint Lithuanian-Polish Workshop “Bio-Inspired Signal and Image Processing”, to be held in Vilnius, Lithuania.
  • Section as co-organizer, co-sponsor of the 15th Joint Lithuanian-Belarus workshop “Microwave and optoelectronic devices and systems”, to be held in Minsk, Belarus.
  • Section as co-organizer, co-sponsor of the 2nd Joint Lithuanian-Latvian workshop “Advances in Information, Electronic and Electrical Engineering”, to be held in Vilnius, Lithuania.
  • Section as organizer of awards for the best thesis for MSc degree defended at Electronics Faculty of VGTU in 2014.
  • Joint SP/CIS/COM Chapter as organizer of guest lecture to be given by Prof. V. John Mathews according to DL program.
  • GOLD Affinity Group as organizer of the seminars with hands-on experience for juniors: “Researchers Night 2014”, “Embedded systems” and “Intelligent systems”.
  • Formation of Computer Society/Power and Energy Society Chapters.
  • Support of the IEEE VGTU Student Branch papers, submitted for IEEE Regional Student Paper Contest.
  • Participation in “VGTU days 2014”.
  • Participation in “IEEEXtreme” competition.
  • Organization of “IEEE Day 2014”.

3. Best practices

  • Joint international workshops with China, Taiwan, Morocco, Belarus, Russia, Poland and Latvia.
  • Co-sponsorship of annual Conference for Lithuania Junior Researchers.
  • Annual awards for the best MSc thesis and the winners of “Battle of Robots”.
  • Series of technical meetings presenting frontiers of research in recently defended Doctoral Dissertations.
  • Series of seminars with hands-on experience for children and juniors.
  • Organization of local and participation in IEEE Region 8 Student Paper Contest.

4. Points of concern / Topics for future discussion

  • Elucidate IEEE membership benefits mostly prominent for Lithuanian scientists and practitioners.
  • Motivate existing IEEE members in Lithuania to become IEEE senior members.

5. Miscellaneous

  • IEEE Lithuania Section almost doubled the number of senior members.
  • IEEE R8 certificate of recognition presented to Lithuania Section Artūras Serackis, 2013 MD Chair, for outstanding achievements towards increasing membership rate during 2013 membership year.
  • IEEE Lithuania GOLD Affinity Group is formed.
  • IEEE Lithuania Section web page migrated from Joomla to WordPress.For details see http://www.ieee.lt.
